Uravu Bamboo Grove had the honour of hosting the OISCA International Day celebration organised by the OISCA Kalpetta Chapter, bringing together members, environmental enthusiasts, and bamboo sector professionals for an inspiring day of learning and interaction.
The programme began with a visit to the bamboo production units in Bamboo Village, where participants witnessed the diverse range of bamboo-based products and interacted with artisans. Following the unit visit, the gathering assembled at Uravu Bamboo Grove for the official celebration.
The event was graced by Adv. S. A. Nazeer, President of the OISCA Kalpetta Chapter, Dr. A. T. Suresh, Coordinator, and Nisha Devasya, Secretary, who addressed the audience. They highlighted OISCA’s commitment to environmental conservation, sustainable development, and community participation, while encouraging greater public involvement in nature-based initiatives.
Welcoming the participants, T. Sivaraj, Managing Director of Uravu Eco Links, introduced the vision and activities of Uravu Bamboo Grove. He explained the ecological, economic, and cultural importance of bamboo, emphasising its role as a sustainable resource for addressing environmental challenges. He also shared how Uravu Eco Links has been promoting bamboo-based livelihoods, eco-friendly tourism, biodiversity conservation, and community development through its various initiatives.
Adding valuable insights into the evolving bamboo industry, K. Baburaj of World of Bamboo Bamboo Nursery spoke about the latest trends in the bamboo sector. The technical session concluded with an informative presentation by P. Manilal, Chief Scientist at CFTRI, who explored the immense potential of bamboo shoots as a nutraceutical.
As a symbol of OISCA’s commitment to environmental conservation, the members planted a tree in the Bamboo Grove campus. TThe celebration served as an excellent platform for exchanging knowledge, strengthening collaborations, and reaffirming the shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable living
