Workshop on Communities and Practices in Thrikkaipetta for Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore, organised by Uravu Eco Links and Aileen Blaney & Athira K. from Srishti Institute.

Twenty photography and design students from Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology Bangalore participated in a workshop on “Communities and Practices” in the village of Thrikkaipetta from 8 to 13 March 2016. The workshop consisted of a theoretical and a practical part. During the theoretical part students were exposed to various presentations by experts. The topics ranged from the history of Wayanad, communities and agricultural practices, and the current state of Adivasi communities in Wayanad. The practical part of the workshop gave the students the opportunity to interact with the villagers and different communities. Each of the students had to find his or her own project topic. The results were presented to the villagers at the end of the week. During this one-week programme the students – born and brought up in cities all over India – got the opportunity to delve into rural village life in South India.
